US SENATORS: THE CONSTITUTION ALLOWS TRUMP'S IMPEACHMENT | DONALD TRUMP BECOMES THE FIRST EVER US PRESIDENT TO FACE IMPEACHMENT TWICE

In the history of US Politics, only three of the American Presidents have been impeached by the house for varying reasons, though none of them were prosecuted. Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998, and Donald Trump in 2019 and 2021 are the three presidents to be impeached by the house of senates. Trump has become the only US President to be impeached twice (and also the only presidential officeholder).

The US Senators voted on Tuesday that the Constitution allows Trump's impeachment proceedings to begin over the acts he performed while in office. This comes after the largely panned opening-day efforts by former US President Trump's legal team.

The 56 to 44 vote opens the way for discussions for up to four days on whether Trump should be guilty of triggering the U.S. January 6 insurgency at the US   Capitol.

House judiciary committee for impeachment launched their case on Wednesday.  First day of the country's fourth presidential impeachment trial was overshadowed by the question of whether the proceeding was legitimate as Trump is no longer in the oval office.

The Democrats argued that the constitution grants the senators of the house, an authority to conduct a trial on a former President because he is being suspected for the offences allegedly committed during his time in the oval office and also that during his tenure, the house has impeached him. Trump’s prosecutors, David Schoen and Bruce Castor Jr. while defending Trump, argued that- “A trial can be conducted only when an official is heading an office.”

How The Social Media is Reacting to the Impeachment News

While quoting Trump’s old tweet posted on 6th of January, CNN Anchor Jake Tapper writes, “Trump attorney Bruce Castor Jr says we’ll never hear anyone representing Trump defending the violence of Jan 6.”

“Trump’s lawyers couldn’t win a moot court competition at any law school in this nation! Rambling. Unorganized. Comical. Down right sad! So when the cowardly GOP Senators vote to acquit Trump, trust me, It won’t be because of his lawyers! #GOP #TrumpLawyer #TrumpImpeachmentTrial,” said Areva Martin, CNN Legal Analyst.

“I really hope Trump’s lawyers got paid up front. What is the going exchange rate for one’s soul? #TrumpImpeachmentTrial,” in a tweet from Julia Pulver.

“This #TrumpImpeachmentTrial is such an embarrassment. He’s blatantly guilty. Every reasonable human on Earth knows that. But he won’t be convicted. Every reasonable human on Earth also knows that. So here we go again with another episode of make America look stupid to the world,” said Lee Abbamonte.

Last month, Donald Trump was impeached for the second time for reportedly triggering the January 6 rebellion, during which an extremist violent group claimed to be in Trump’s favor headed a MAGA (Make America Great Again) rally and vandalized the U.S. Capitol. The riot had led to the deaths of five citizens, including one police officer.
