‘People think back-seaters don't need belt’: Nitin Gadkari, CheckBrand Evaluated the Impact on his Popularity Index
Citing Cyrus Mistry accident case, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Transport Minister, stated on Monday that the average man's thinking must alter in order to improve road safety. People assume that they don’t require fastening their seatbelt while sitting at the backseat of the car. That's the problem. I don't want to comment on any accident, but both front-seaters and back-seaters need to wear seat belts," the minister remarked during his speech at the IAA's Global Summit - Nations as Brands.

The remark comes after the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry in an automobile accident on Sunday. According to the police investigation, Cyrus Mistry was in the backseat of the automobile and was not wearing a seat belt. The automobile was speeding when it collided with a road barrier on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway's Surya river bridge.
"Cyrus Mistry's accident is tragic and a tremendous shock to the country. He was a close buddy of mine. Every year in our nation, there are 5 lakh accidents and 1 lakh 50 thousand deaths. And, of those who died, 65% were between the ages of 18 and 34 "added the minister.
In addition, Nitin Gadkari also said, “six airbags will soon become mandatory in all cars and there is no question of compromising on international standard of road safety.” Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari also said that an airbag comes at only ₹900.
“Forget about normal people's automobiles; I've been in the cars of four chief ministers — don't ask me who they are; I was in the front seat and discovered that there was a clip so that it doesn't make any noise when there is no belt.” police says that Cyrus Mistry was not wearing seat belt; car covered 20km in 9 minute " The ministry is taking the help of Bollywood stars, cricketers and media to spread awareness about this,” the minister said.
“This is the one bad aspect of my ministry where we are anticipating great things but are not in a favourable position. We have the world's second biggest road network. Only 2% is dedicated to national highways...all major cities require ring roads. Both the population and the number of automobiles are rising, which is beyond our control”, According to Gadkari.
Gadkari stated that the government is aiming to make six airbags mandatory in all vehicles. “When those automobiles are exported, the same manufacturers install six airbags. So, why do Indian automobiles only have four airbags? Do our lives lack meaning? An airbag costs only ₹900, and as the quantity grows, the price will only decrease” the clergyman.
