16th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas

The Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas is held in the country every year on the 9th of January to celebrate the symbiotic relationship between the India and its diaspora and to also address issues such as development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 16th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in a virtual event. The theme of the convention, aimed at encouraging Indian diaspora to be part of socio-economic development in India, is “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat”, the PMO said in a statement.

This year the convention will have three segments, the official statement stated. It will also feature a keynote address by the Chief Guest, H.E. Mr. Chandrikapersad Santokhi who is the President of the Republic of Suriname.

Today also marks the day when Mahatma Gandhi returned to Bombay from South Africa in the year 1915.

The convention this year will focus on two issues:
⦁    Role of Diaspora in Atmanirbhar Bharat
⦁    Facing Post Covid Challenges-Scenario in Health, Economy, Social and International Relations

The official PMO statement read: “The first Plenary on Role of Diaspora in Aatmanirbhar Bharat, will feature addresses by External Affairs Minister and Commerce and Industry Minister while the second Plenary on Facing Post Covid Challenges - Scenario in Health, Economy, Social and International Relations, will be addressed by Minister of Health and Minister of State for External Affairs”.

Many Indians live and have settled abroad. They are not just the contributing force in their respective nation states but also to their home country of India:

Earlier, the Prime Minister had requested Indians settled abroad to adopt villages and contribute to the development of the nation.

President Ram Nath Kovind will address the valedictory session of the event this year.

The names of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardees for 2020-21  which is conferred to select Indian diaspora members to recognise their achievements and honour their contributions to various fields, both in India and abroad will also be announced.

The winners of the online Bharat ko Janiye Quiz for the youth will also be announced.

Checkbrand team wishes all the Indians settled abroad and requests them to keep contributing towards the development of their nation.
