AN ANSWER TO WHY #REALFARMERSWITHMODI IS TRENDING ON TWITTER

Since the Independence, India gradually boomed in almost every sector but one was left behind and was ignored for the past 70 years, this is India’s Farming sector. The sector that uplifted India’s economy and filled our ‘Ration Bhandars’ and kept the entire nation fuelled.

Unfortunately, the ideology in our Nation has come to a stage where no father would want his son/daughter to be a farmer. Regardless of the fact that farmers are the most valuable part of any society around the world, they are victims of mistreatment and ignorance in India.

In the past few weeks, we have been spectators to huge protest that claims to a #farmersprotest. Thousands of farmers have gathered around the national capital’s borders, specifically on the singhu border at Delhi-Haryana Junction.

For all who people believe in a true democracy, protesting against something that you don’t support is a basic right, and we don’t want it to be suppressed. However, we also have another important right and that is the right to question.

Probably this is what another group of activists is using on social media recently, #RealfarmerswithModi has started trending apparently to compete with #farmersprotest. The former hashtag has started developing a pace on the microblogging website, Twitter and a new group of netizens has started coming up in support of PM Narendra Modi’s Farm Bill.

The group is questioning whether ‘why farmers from only one part of India are showing involvement in the protest?’ and ‘why Shaheen Bagh picture is coming in the farmer’s protest against farm bill?’

This group is actively promoting the benefits to the remote farmers across the nation with the new farm bill. This sudden surge on social media in favor of the farm bill is also enjoyed by many politicians. Many politicians took to Twitter with the hashtag #RealFarmersWithModi the notion here is to make everyone understand that real farmers of India are with the new farm bill that frees them from “a prohibition to sell at will”.

Surjit S Bhalla, a columnist at Indian Express, in his recent article expressed his views as to why AMPC’s rich farmers who are in indeed minority want to keep the majority of farmers enslaved.

“Be honest — how many of you know the law in any of the 195 out of 200 countries in the world that prohibit an individual from selling her wares in the market? Count the countless street vendors in the world, in both developing and developed markets. Are they prohibited from selling who they want to sell to? Then why the demand that the APMC be the sole buyer for all farmers?”, Surjit Bhalla in his recent article.

The union minister of Railways Piyush Goyal made a following statement quoting the Mr. Bhalla’s article.

“An insightful take by Surjit Bhalla on how only a minuscule minority of rich farmers is protesting against the farm laws. They don’t want an end to the colonial system that has benefited them.”, said Union Minister, Piyush Goyal

The union minister for Textiles, Smriti Irani by referring Bhalla’s article raised concerns over the on-going Farmer’s Protest.

“An insightful article dispelling false information & propaganda being spread against the farm laws.”, said Union Minister, Smriti Irani.

The conclusion of the new trend seems to an explanation as to why the new Farm Bill could break the chains and barriers for the majority of farmers and giving them the freedom to sell at their price and in their own choice of market, thus breaking the monopoly of APMCs.
