#BoycottChina: Chinese firm awarded awarded the contract for Delhi-Meerut rapid rail project
It comes as a blow to the Atmanirbhar Bharat Initiative, a Chinese firm has won a contract to build 5.6 km underground stretch of Delhi-Meerut rapid rail project. According to the reports, The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has awarded a contract to a Chinese company, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited, for the construction of a 5.6-kilometre underground stretch, from New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad, of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS project.
An NCRTC spokesperson commented: “Approvals have to be taken at various levels for bids that are funded by multilateral agencies. This bid was also awarded following the set procedure and guidelines. Now, all the civil work tenders of the 82-km-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor have been awarded and the construction is going on in full swing to commission the project in time".
However, this fact does not seem to go well with the Netizens who seem to completely abhorr any inclusion of the Chinese firm in the project and took to the social media platforms with hashtag #Boycott China:
The criticism does not stop here, it seems that the government's earlier move which included banning chinese apps seems to have not go well with the people, who view this contract award as a contradiction to the government's earlier said motives:
A total of five companies had participated in the process of bidding which was ultimately awarded to the Chinese company which emerged as the L1 bidder.
Last year, the Union housing and urban affairs ministry had revealed the first look of the RRTS train, the design of which is supposedly inspired by Delhi’s Lotus Temple. It is projected to attain a top speed of 180 kilometres per hour on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
The project is expected to cost ₹30,274 crore and will have 24 stations including two depots at Duhai and Modipuram:
The RRTS Corridor will be the first of its kind in the country and is projected to be operational by the year 2025.
However, this is in complete contradiction of governments philophies which it tries to convey to the masses: boycott chinese products, focus on swadeshi principles. Such moves can only term such aspects as bogus. Even in the light of the recent border disputes with the Chinese, this fact does not seem to resonate well with the people. What would be the government's predicament on it is a question which is still unanswered.
