Iran refuses to reverse nuclear measures until the US lifts sanctions

According to Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran will not approve US demands that it revoke the progress of its nuclear program until Washington lifts sanctions.

The demand "is not practical and will not happen," he said at a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, in Istanbul on Friday.

US President Joe Biden's new government has said that Tehran must restore conformity with the restrictions on its nuclear activities under the 2015 agreement of the global powers before it can rejoin the deal officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In a step-by-step reaction to the decision by Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, to abandon the pact in 2018 and reinstate sanctions on Tehran, Iran breached the provisions of the agreement.

Earlier in the month, at its underground Fordow nuclear facility, Iran reinstated enriching uranium to 20 percent, an amount that it reached before the deal.

However, Iran has said that if US sanctions are lifted, it will easily undo those breaches.

"We will fulfill our obligations in full if the United States fulfills its obligations," Zarif said.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday dismissed Iranian pressure on the US to intervene first.

"On a number of fronts, Iran is out of compliance," Blinken told a news conference in Washington DC.

The Foreign Minister of Iran hitting back on US for violations of JCPOA and with numerous allegations at Trump’s Administration, wrote, “Reality check for @SecBlinken:

The US

-violated JCPOA

-blocked food/medicine to Iranians

-punished adherence to UNSCR 2231

Throughout that sordid mess, Iran

-abided by JCPOA

-only took foreseen remedial measures

Now, who should take 1st step?

Never forget Trump's maximum failure.”

The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran has announced plans to install 1000 new IR2M centrifuge machines at the Natanz #nuclear site in the next three months,” wrote World Nuclear News in a tweet.

“US national security adviser warns of 'escalating nuclear crisis' with #Iran,” tweeted the National News from its official Twitter handle.

The world is One News shared a social media post mentioning a new challenge from West Asia to the newly elected US President, Joe Biden.
