#Lockdown 2021: Borris Johnson announces national lockdown and cancels India Visit
Even as Britain has ramped up its vaccination program by becoming the first nation state to implement the vaccine developed by Oxford University and drugmaker AstraZeneca, Prime Minister Borris Johnson has announced that a new national lockdown for England will be implemented until at least mid-February.
The Prime Minister has urged the people to stay at home since the new strain was spreading at a "frustating and alarming" rate. Social media platform twitter has been bustling with the new proclamation:
In a televised address, he said : "As I speak to you tonight, our hospitals are under more pressure from COVID than at any time from the start of the pandemic".
The new series of lockdowns will come in effect from Tuesday 5th January, 2020. All the elementary schools and universities would be closed till atleast mid-feb. People are advised to work from home and venture out only if it is extremely urgent. Restaurants will offer only takeaway services and the sale of alcohol would be limited.
The United Kingdom reported a record number on Monday 4th with over 58,000 confirmed cases.
Borris Johnson has been criticised for his soft stance on the pandemic which led to the loss of many lives. Re-opening the economy without a proper analysis seems to have proven to be disastrous for Britain.
The Prime Minister has also cancelled his visit to India as the Chief Guest of the Republic Day Parade held on 26th January every year:
Citing the need to oversee the virus response, Borris Johnson would no longer be participating in the Republic Day celebrations.
Britain seems to be loosing the battle against the coronavirus as cases have been continuously rising on a daily basis:
The new strain of the coronavirus spreads faster than the earlier strain. However substantial research has proved that it is not necessarily more deadly.
Checkbrand.online, an online sentiment analysis and digital media marketing tool urges all its readers to follow COVID-19 regulations and take precaution since only a collective effort can defeat the virus.
