Nobel Peace Prize nominations is a 'Shocker' once again !

It came as a 'shocker' to many when the news broke out that the son-in-law of the former US president Jared Kushner as well as 2018 Georgia Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams, have been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace prize.

According to the reports by Reuters, voting rights activist and politician Stacey Abrams has been nominated by a Norwegian lawmaker. Abrams, who played a critical role in helping to register thousands of voters for the 2020 presidential election and Senate runoff election in Georgia, is being nominated for her work to “promote nonviolent change via the ballot box.”

Lars Haltbrekken, a Socialist Party member of Norway’s parliament commented: “Abrams’ work follows in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s footsteps in the fight for equality before the law and for civil rights,”.

Petter Eide, a Socialist Left member of Norway’s parliament, wrote in his nomination letter that he would be nominating Black Lives Matter “for their struggle against racism and racially motivated violence,” further adding that the movement’s “call for systemic change have spread around the world, forcing other countries to grapple with racism within their own societies.”

Who is Stacey Abrams?

Stacey Abrams has had multiple jobs so far. She has been a tax attorney, a romance novelist, a political scriptwriter, a research assistant, organizer of two voters' drives, and co-producer of a documentary on politics. She has been the first African-American woman to be nominated in a governor's race. She has also started her own businesses, a bottled-water company for babies and a payment company that helps small businesses. However, her most significant work thus far has been to help Joe Biden win the Presidency by ensuring his victory in Georgia, which had been a republican state until now.

Jared Kushner:

Jared Corey Kushner is an American investor, real estate developer, and newspaper publisher. He served as a senior advisor to his father-in-law, Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States.

Kushner is the son of the former real-estate developer Charles Kushner and is married to Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter and fellow advisor. As a result of his father's conviction and incarceration for fraud, he took over management of his father's real estate company Kushner Companies, which launched his business career. He later also bought Observer Media, publisher of the New York Observer. He is the co-founder and part owner of 'Cadre', an online real-estate investment platform. He has been nominated this year alongside former President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. 

The Oslo based Norwegian Nobel Committee will release a short list for the award in March. Other notable candidates this year include Russian dissident Alexei

Navalny and the famous teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg.

The US Black Lives Matter movement, as well as Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked the Pentagon Papers about the Vietnam War, US Congresswoman Barbara Lee and

WikiLeaks have also been nominated, as have pro-democracy and civil rights campaigners from Belarus to Poland and Hungary.

The 2021 laureate will be announced in October.
