#SrinagarFakeEncounter Trends on Twitter After Three Militants Encounter in Srinagar

Three militants were put to death in Srinagar on 30th of December in an infelicitous event at Lawaypora at the outskirts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The militants were killed in an encounter, however the families of the deceased claimed that they were not militants but civilians.

The deceased were identified as Zubair Ahmad from Turkawangam Shopian, Ajaz Maqbool and Athar Mushtaq from Putrigam Pulwama.

According to the sources, the militants were planning a huge attack at the national highway.

The army, J&K police and the CRPF after knowing the inputs decided to block entry and exit polls towards the NH and launched the security operation.

General Officer Commanding (GoC) Kilo Force HS Sahi said, “We had been getting inputs about militant movement on the national highway. The operation was launched last evening after getting inputs that militants were inside a house close to the national highway. They were asked to surrender, however, they responded with firing and the operation was suspended for the night. When the operation was resumed in the morning, they were again given an offer to surrender; however, they again started firing and hurled grenades at the forces, which gave us an indication they had no intention to surrender.”

Where the police claim that the youths killed were militants, their families say that they were mere students and went to attend classes. They were killed in the middle of an encounter and they did not deserve to die this way, one of the family members said.

After this unclean encounter, people began questioning the J&K authorities blaming them for the fake encounter. #srinagarencounter, #srinagarfakeencounter and #srinagarencounterupdate were used by common people.

PDP President and former J&K Minister Mehbooba mufti remembered the Shopian encounter and feared if this case would have a clean statement from the government.

J&K has had a total 203 militants killed this year. The UT already fears more about their kids and holds the local authorities responsible for the actions.
