Taiwan announces extension of mandatory military service to one year, receives 13.1% Positive Sentiments from the audiences online: CheckBrand

In response to the threat posed by an increasingly antagonistic China, Taiwan on Tuesday announced an increase in the length of mandatory military service from four months to one year. China has been rattling its sword more frequently under President Xi Jinping in recent years, and Taiwan has grown more concerned that Beijing may take similar action to annex the island as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Taiwan's president, Tsai Ing-wen, stated at a news conference that China's "threats and intimidation towards Taiwan are become more clear."

Nobody wants conflict, yet, my fellow citizens, peace won't just appear.

The existing four-month military commitment is insufficient, she continued, to keep up with the rapidly evolving circumstances.
