Indian Farmers Announce Bharat Bandh Amidst Centre’s Refusal To Scrap Farm Bills

Indian farmers have developed unachievable and unbreakable competence and have been protesting since months now. It will be absurd to blame them for sitting at Delhi borders and fighting for what they demand sans Centre’s littlest efforts to offer what they demand.

In a recent announcement, the farmers have announced Bharat Bandh on 8th December as their grievances continue. Farmer leader Harvinder Singh Lakhwal along with other farm unions have decided to call for a nationwide strike on 8th December. Lakhwal further added that the farmers will prohibit entries along all Delhi borders and block all Delhi roads if the Centre refuses to scrap the farm bills. Adding to his statement Lakhwal said “In our meeting today, we have decided to give a 'Bharat Bandh' call on December 8 during which we will also occupy all toll plazas." The kisan unions have decided to intensify the protests and agitation if the government fails to deny their dissent.

As the farmers stand together to fight for their rights, recently thousands of Nihang Sikhs have also joined the protests. The farmers have been showing dissent towards the three newly passed bills i.e Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill. The farmers fear that these bills will demolish the APMC structure and will demean the complete working structure of farming benefitting none other than larger corporate houses. The bills will also reduce MSPs which again will be a privation for the farmers. The Centre however has tried to have a conversation with the farmers but they refused believing there is no option despite scrapping the bills.
