Who will be Britain's next prime minister?
The race for becoming the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was narrowed down to the final two candidates Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss. Sunak won 137 votes and Truss got 113 votes in the final round.
Both of the final two candidates took to Twitter to comment on the result.
"Grateful that my colleagues have put their trust in me today. I will work night and day to deliver our message around the country," tweeted Sunak.
For her part, Truss tweeted: "Thank you for putting your trust in me. I'm ready to hit the ground running from day one."
Who is Rishi Sunak?
Sunak is best known for serving as chancellor of the Exchequer, Britain’s chief financial officer, during the pandemic. The economic policies he introduced as finance minister “helped get the UK through an incredibly difficult period over the last couple of years. Sunak is a symbol for many of a modern, multi-racial Britain.
His supporters say:
Sunak’s reputation as a capable technocrat makes him more favorable for the position. His principled stand that tax cuts should be delayed until the UK is on firm economic footing demonstrates that he puts the country first.
His critics say:
Sunak is a backstabber and political opportunist. He was also fined for involvement in Johnson’s lockdown scandals, he was among the first to resign his post to signal no-confidence in Johnson’s government.

Who is Liz Truss?
Truss is a political veteran who has served as both post-Brexit international trade secretary and foreign minister. She has “campaigned openly as the Continuity Johnson candidate,” according to Eurasia Group’s top Europe analyst Mij Rahman.

Her supporters often quote her as “Boris without the baggage,” but untainted by the scandals that sank Boris Johnson.
Her critics say:
