Rajasthan Labourers Die After Truck Driver Lost Control While They Slept On The Pavement
Today’s morning arrived with one of the upsetting moment as Gujarat witnessed a horrific incident.
Fifteen migrant labourers from Surat, Gujarat were put to death after a truck crashed them while they were sleeping near the road.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his condolences to the victims saying "The loss of lives due to a truck accident in Surat is tragic. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover at the earliest.
Modi announced a compensation of two lakhs for the grieving families and also announced Rs. 50,000 for each injured labour.
The victims were from Banswada, Rajasthan. The police report also clarified that the deceased six belonged to a single family.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot also mourned the deaths and wished speedy reco very of the others who were injured. “The tragedy in Surat is heart wrenching. [I am] deeply saddened to know that the labourers from Banswara have lost their lives after a truck ran over them as they were sleeping near the road,” said Gehlot.
Background
The incident happened on Kim Mandvi road near Kosamba village near Surat. According to the police, the dumper truck ran onto the sleeping labourers in which twelve of them were killed on the spot and the others were admitted to the nearby hospital.
The police officials said that the truck driver suddenly lost control, hit the sugarcane loaded tractor trolley coming from the opposite direction which led to the incident.
The three admitted faced severe head injuries and died in the hospital.
Surat SP Usha Rada said “The truck's front window pane shattered on impact, which blocked the driver's vision. The truck then veered off the road and crashed into the sleeping labourer.”
