Women’s Volition In Farmers Protests Describe Nothing But Solidarity
Reminiscing the 1975 women’s movement for gender equality then and witnessing the women fighting against farm laws now marks the historic presets of women presence in every huge win India deserves.
18th January is called to be the women’s farmers day as women from all over Punjab and Haryana will march towards Kathera district at the residence of BJP leader Surjeet Kumar Jyani.
Balwinder Kaur, a woman farmer from Bathinda district, has announced to lead the march with her granddaughter Karnaaz Kaur. The other leading face of the march will be Balwinder Kaur from Chak Fateh Singh Wala village of the same district and her granddaughter Navnoor Kaur.
Thousands of women farmers will take charge of the protests in Delhi borders as well as in the native village of Jyani.
The women incharge of BKU Ugrahan will perform dharnas at Harjeet Singh Grewal’s and Surjeet Kumar Jyani’s villages. The staged dharnas will incarnate the struggles of farmers and the Centre’s rejection of women farmer’s rights.
The BKU Ugrahan general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri said “Women units of Sangrur, Barnala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa and Patiala will go to Dhanaula village while women units of Bathinda, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Moga, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur will go to Kathera village. When we started struggle against farm laws, our union had district bodies in 13 districts of Punjab and now it has district bodies in 16 districts of Punjab. Jalandhar, Tarn Taran and Fatehgarh Sahib are the new districts from where membership has been done in large numbers.”
The women farmers have further clarified that they will be staging dharnas at the villages first and then at the borders. BKU Vice president supporting the women farmers stated “ Though Jyani claims to be chairman of eight-member BJP panel to coordinate with farmer unions and Grewal is one of the panel members, they have only defamed the farmers rather than putting up a strong case before the Union ministers for Punjab’s farmers. Their role needs to be condemned. Hence, rallies have been planned in their villages.”
Where these women stand for withdrawing the farm laws, India stands along supporting #womenfarmersagainstfarmlaw.
While the male farmers stand untouched at the borders, the women farmers do their bit to continue seeding the farm grounds in their absence.
The women of Punjab and Haryana have been passing stereotypes staged for long years and this time too, they did not forget to power along their men who have been fighting for months demanding revocation of the farm bills 2020.
The protests must have had male faces that showcase activism, temper and exhaust at the same time, the pictures glorify the strength of men and women participating equally for what they demand (withdraw farm bills).
