World’s Longest Cruise, Ganga Vilas Ready to Set Sail with 36 Tourists On Board

The opulent triple-deck cruise, MV Ganga Vilas, arrived in Kashi from Kolkata on Monday, January 9, and is now prepared to set out on the longest river journey in the world, which will take it from Varanasi to Dibrugarh in Assam.

The cruise, which will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference on January 13, has been reserved by a group of 36 Swiss tourists who will fly into the city on Tuesday. The average fare for the 52-day trip down the longest river in the world is about Rs 25,000 per person per night, which will cost about Rs 13 lakh.

A river ship called the Ganga Vilas will travel 3200 kilometres in 50 days from Varanasi to Dibrugarh.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, and Sarbananda Sonowal, the union minister for ports, shipping, and waterways, will both be present at the flag-off ceremony at Ravidas Ghat. Then they'll start construction on a posh tent city along the banks of the Ganga.

The Ganga Vilas will leave for Dibrugarh after the flag-off with 33 tourists aboard, including 32 Swiss and one German. The 62.5 m long, 12.8 m wide, and 1.35 m deep ship will travel 27 different river systems in Bangladesh and India over a distance of 3200 km.
